How I Began to make Full-Time Income as a Reader

If you’re wondering how you can make enough money being a reader, spiritual mentor or coach, I got you. 

I’m going to breakdown what worked for me and how I made the leap into full-time income. This is a long one, but worth it if you’re really committed to bringing in steady income via your spiritual business.


I DID THE MATH

I know… this is so boring, but I first asked myself how much I would like to make a month. 

To start it was around $2,500. (I don’t totally remember what the number was exactly, but let’s use this number as an example.)

My readings were $100 at the time, so I knew I needed to book 25 hours worth of work a month. That was about 6 spots a week that I needed to fill.

For me, it was a mix of one-time readings and coaching clients. But either way, the slots were $100 each. 

Now that I had a tangible goal, I could work towards it. 


I FOCUSED ON PEOPLE NOT A FOLLOWING

Believe me, my Leo moon loves growing an audience and the idea of having a following. But when I first started, thinking of growing an “audience” was getting me nowhere. 

The reason why that wasn’t helping me was because what I really needed to was to prove my business concept. Meaning, I needed to know that this work could make me a full-time living and that the money could be consistent. 

Growing a following or having an audience does not automatically equate to having a steady business. Because even if you have a following, you need to #1 have something to offer them in exchange for money. And #2 your audience has to be engaged with you enough to buy. 

I tried the “grow a following” route but it’s a long road to monetize in the way influencers do through sponsorships, etc. (Plus, honestly, I have such an issue with authority that it would be so difficult for me to make content because another brand told me to.)

Every person that came to me for a reading (even the free ones), I put their name, their phone number and their email in a spreadsheet on my computer. In this spreadsheet, I also wrote down what stood out to me from our session together and what area of life they were working on. 

This way, when I released a workshop or a course that could be helpful for them, I would email or text them to see if they felt called to join. 


CUSTOMER SERVICE

That last line where I tell you I reached out to people directly might have made you feel uncomfortable. I get it. 

The only reason I didn’t feel uncomfortable was because I truly loved every client that came my way. I cared about them and their healing. Since I didn’t have a bunch, I was able to pour into the ones I did have. This manifested itself as stellar customer service. 

Meaning, I made the whole experience of working with me really heart-centered. I would email them after a session if something reminded me of them or I would go out of my way to share resources, etc. 

Because of this close relationship, it was easy to ask them to join me in a bigger program. If they would say no, it never felt personal because I knew we had a genuine relationship. 


I LEANED INTO MY STRENGTHS WHEN IT CAME TO MARKETING

Knowing how many clients I would need a month was helpful, but now I needed to find those people and let them know I existed. This is what marketing is. 

I enjoyed teaching from the very beginning. Before doing this work, I used to teach blogging classes at local coffee shops in Miami. I would literally pull in 50 people each time. I was so impressed!

So I knew small, in-person workshops interested people and it was something I enjoyed. These workshops — most of them free — were how I met most of my clients at the time. Eventually I started to do free workshops online and my customers started to reach beyond Miami (which was so exciting!). 

I was also really good with referrals. Meaning, people would have a good experience with me and they would bring me others. So I started to give free readings to people who I knew had bigger networks, like my massage therapist and friend who was a life coach.
