3 Components to Living An Authentic Life

Living an authentic life is all about living true to our soul’s path. What is a soul’s path? It’s the idea that before we reincarnated into this lifetime we created somewhat of a blueprint for what we wanted to do this lifetime. Of course, when we are born, we forget the whole plan. But at some point in our lives, we start to ask questions like, “What is my purpose?” which is really just us remembering that we created a soul’s path.

Typically, when we start to ask these types of questions, we fear that we may be lost or have some sort of identity crisis. But really, I see these questions as a sign that we are just beginning to awaken to our true selves, which will guide us toward living an authentic life.

And authenticity is important. Why? Because if we’re not living authentically, then we’re not following our soul’s path. If we’re not following our soul’s path then we’re not really accomplishing what we set out to do this lifetime — which means we’re at risk of repeating Earth school. Who wants to do that?!

In addition to the threat of repeating a grade in Earth school, not living an authentic life just feels off, unfulfilling, and in worst-case scenarios it feels like misery. We are each unique souls with special missions. If we’re experiencing symptoms of misalignment (health issues, frustration, depression, and so on), this only means that the life we’re living is not true to us. It may be a beautiful life — but a beautiful life for someone else and maybe not for your unique soul.

If you’re trying to figure out how you can do a better job of living an authentic life, consider these tips.

1. Look for signs of misalignment

When we’re not living authentically, there will be signs like illness and the feeling of being trapped. Or if you’re trying really hard to make something work — a job, a relationship, or a location — and you still don’t seem to feel settled, something is misaligned.

We tend to hide from the frustrating emotions of misalignment, but honestly, they are a great help in telling us what we don’t want, which ultimately is telling us what is not authentic.

2. Begin to understand your programming

In a perfect world, we would remain in our hearts from birth and never lose touch of who we really are. But we live in an imperfect world with old systems and structures taught by wounded humans. We are bound to learn thoughts and perspectives that are not true to our souls.

For example, maybe your family taught you that artists never make money, yet you’re being called to do creative work. When your heart’s desire conflicts with a belief we were taught, it’s easy to feel frustrated, stuck, sad, and even mad. Check in with your beliefs and ask yourself what feels scary about where your heart is calling you.

3. Listen to your body

If it feels like a no to your body, say no. This can be a hard one for people-pleasers, but you can do it just as experience for a few weeks. How do you feel after a few days of honoring your no? What you say no to is just as important to how your life pans out as paying attention to your yes.

Remember you are already authentic. There’s just a little cleaning that needs to happen in order to let your authentic life shine.
