If You Can’t be Consistent with Your Business, Try This

I am not a disciplined person. 

I have never been able to stick to a food routine, a workout routine, or a social media posting schedule. 

It’s just not me. 

In business, we are told over and over again that if we are not consistent, then we will not thrive. So we put ourselves on these crazy schedules and try to manage ourselves with the voice and energy of a sergeant. 

Ultimately, we rebel. And it’s game over. 

I know, because I’ve done the same. But I always resist, because I am a rebel at heart. A flowy Cancer who could only dance to her own rhythms. 

Because of this, I don’t focus on consistency. Consistency to me sounds like doing the same thing every day rigorously. 

Consistency isn’t important to me. Showing up for myself and my dreams every day is what I find important. 

And the only reason we don’t show up for ourselves and our dreams every day is because we don’t understand why it’s important. 

The importance of showing up is different for everyone, and it depends on what season of life you’re in. 

When I first started my business, showing up was important because I simply did not want to become my mother: A woman who gave up on her dreams and instead became resentful towards her family. I did not want to do that to my future children, so I showed up. 

Later in my journey, I found it important to be financially independent from my husband. Again, I had seen women in my family hand off all that power to their husbands. I did not want this to be me, so I showed up.

These days, I show up because the little girl in me wants to shine. She has a purpose and a message, and I believe she’s worthy of shooting that shot, so I show up.

Today, ask yourself why it’s worth showing up for your dreams. Maybe it’s something you’re trying to avoid? Or maybe it’s simply because you love yourself. Any motivation works! But find what drives you. 

Once you find that reason, repeat it to yourself. I show up for myself because….And I am worth it.

That phrase is what’s going to keep you moving ahead.
