How to Build a Business without a Huge Social Media Following

The idea that we need to have a large social media following — or use social media, at all — to build a spiritual practitioner business is a total LIE.

Growing a spiritual practitioner business is no different than how your uncle grew his mechanic shop.

Everything your local hairstylist, florist, dentist, and so on does to grow her business, is the same way you will grow your spiritual practitioner business.

Is social media one way  to get clients? Of course! But it’s not the only way. And you don’t need to be a social media star.

Personally, I didn’t start with social media. I’m a super shy Cancer baby and I just couldn’t figure out how to show up consistently online.

Instead I focused on:

  • Collaborating with local yoga studios and women gyms to teach free workshops

  • Giving free readings to connectors (like my masseuse, hair stylist, and life coaches that I knew)

After I became good at those strategies, I started to add more, and Instagram became one of those strategies at some point.

So when you think about growing your spiritual practitioner business, think outside the social media box.

Here are three tips to consider:

1. Focus on Leads (not a Following)

A business needs clients to survive. People who pay for your services, regularly. So the biggest question we need to ask ourselves is: Where do these clients come from? Yes, some of your clients might be on social media, but there also in other places: like at the local yoga studio, or visiting therapists and other healers who would love to refer to you. You want to widen your search for clients beyond social media.

2. How to Generate Leads

There are so many ways! Here’s a few ideas. Pick what feels like the best and lean in.

Referrals, SEO optimization, Collaborate with local businesses, Host free workshops (online and in-person), Blog for free on other websites, Join network groups or other healing circles.

3. Focus on Shareable Content & Make an Ask

If you do enjoy content, make sure you make content that people are sharing. Sharing is how you get new followers. I might want to post a cute picture of my kids, but most people won’t share that. If I post something that offers tips, people are more likely to share it, which brings new people to my work. And at the end of the post, don’t forget to invite them to your signature offering.

I have so many more thoughts about this, but I don’t want to overwhelm you. I share everything I know about growing a thriving spiritual practitioner business in my course, “Full-Time Spiritual Mentor.”

It’s typically an on-demand course, but if you purchase by May 8, you’ll get to join two live Q&A calls with me so you can get your questions answered.
